Needle Blight Tree Disease - Prevention and Control
This group of blight diseases - including Diplodia, Dothistroma and brown spot - attacks conifers (mostly pines) by girdling needles and killing branch tips. These needle blights are caused by the fungus, Dothistroma pini mostly on western pines and Scirrhia acicola on longleaf and Scots pine needles. Needle damage can cause major commercial and ornamental damage to conifers in North America significantly affecting the nursery and Christmas tree industries. Infected needles often fall from the tree creating a symptomatic scorched, denuded look. The blight usually results in dramatic browning and dropping of the foliage beginning on the lower branches. It rarely attacks upper branches on conifers so the tree might not immediately die. Diseased Needle Identification Early symptoms of a blighted needle would be deep-green bands and yellow and tan spots on needles. This deep green color banding is short-lived. The spots and bands quickly turn brown to reddish brown during the summer months. These bands tend to be brighter red and more numerous on pines in California, Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, where this disease is often referred to as the red band disease. Needles may develop extensive leaf browning within several weeks of the first appearance of symptoms. Infection is typically most severe in the lower crown. Infected second-year needles usually drop before infected current-year needles. Needles that become infected the year they emerge often are not shed until late summer the following year. Successive years of severe needle infection can result in tree death. In most cases, the disease makes pines in landscapes unsightly and pines in Christmas tree plantings unmarketable. Prevention Repeated annual cycles of disease infection can result in dead limbs and eventual loss of any meaningful ornamental or commercial value of the conifer. Breaking this infection cycle has to happen to effectively stop the fungus. Brown spot needle blight in longleaf pine is controlled using fire. The use of genetic resistant pine strains or clones has been identified in Austrian, ponderosa, and Monterey pines. Seeds from Eastern Europe have shown high resistance and are currently used to produce Austrian pines for Great Plains plantings. Sources of ponderosa pine seed have been identified as having high resistance and collected for planting in endemic areas. Control High-value nursery and Christmas tree plantings can benefit from chemical fungal control. Early detection is important and high dollar trees may be sprayed as a preventative measure in locations where the fungus is active. A copper fungicide spray program, repeated over several years, will eventually allow new, undamaged needles and branch tips to replace the diseased ones. Chemical applications should begin in spring where the first spray protects the previous years needles and the second spray protects the current years needles. When symptoms of the diseases have disappeared, you can discontinue spraying. Ask your local extension agent for recommended chemicals.

The Act of Sex Is It Worth the Consequences in William...
There is a women gasping for her life while trying to escape from a rose in both of the illustrations that are set for one, individual poem. Most roses represent positively-themed symbolism depending on their colour. For example, the universal symbol for a red rose is love. In relation, the two colours used in each of the pictures are deep red/crimson and white, which are not typical rose colour choices. The deep red rose is used in the original illustration of the poem and it symbolizes unconscious beauty. William Blake may uses this colour because the woman that is trying to escape from the rose, may only be internally beautiful. The woman may be very young, grotesque or unsightly. The deep red rose represents the woman because it isâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦You cannot see a sickness because most are airborne or caught on contact, thus making it invisible. The worm is said to be flying through the night, which references sexual activities because sex commonly happens during t he night. Generally, worms are innocent creatures because they cause no harm to humans. All they do is live in the soil to find nutrients and food. The only time you would ever see an earthworm, without digging, is during a rainstorm when they surface themselves to the ground. They try to maintain their health and not die by being drowned by rain water. Even though they are visible, they are still not harmful in anyway. It is interesting that Blake uses such an innocent creature to describe something so destructive like a sexually transmitted infection. He wants to compare two innocent things, the woman and the worm, and show how by engaging in one act, can destroy ones life. There are worms present in both illustrations provided for the poem. It is very unusual that he illustrates the worms crawling on a stem because worms do not crawl on the top of plants. In the first illustration, the worm is shaded black. It is perceived as crawling or moving along the stem of a leaf, by the dr awn curve in its body. The colour black symbolizes death, which is directed towards the womans innocence. Once the worm catches the woman, her innocence is dead. In the second image, there are

Health and Wellness Ministry
Question: 1. Variation in activities of an old man? 2. Health Needs for the Old? 3. Two Components of Health? Answer: Functional Health Variation 1. Considering ageing process, most organs drop so much in their functional capacities as well as their abilities to remain homeostatic (Harris M, 2017). The process of ageing itself is slow but it involves several internal and external changes. Functional changes influence the following; Daily Experiences. These involve daily activities i.e. in old person it brings fatigue; they mostly feel tired upon small task done Social Aspect. Many people at old age get tired together; they develop a passion to stay by each other Physical Health Variations This involves physical fitness, activities and health .This may affect the following; Body shape, muscular strength and born strength 2. Provision of health care centres to provide for them services when needed Providing policies at grass roots level to ensuring that old age needs and demands are met 3. Physical Component which involves general physic of an individual; many old people usually look tired and fatigued Environmental Health Component ( Hamilton E ,2004). The environment in which a person lives can play a major role in ensuring an old age is well taken care of or not. If they happen to be neglected then their life may so worsen than expected. Blogging and Tweeting Responsible Decisions â⬠Free Samples to Students
Question: Discuss about the Blogging and Tweeting Responsible Decisions. Answer: Introduction: Privacy is something which is gives a person the right to keep their person affairs as personal. When these affairs of a person, are presented before the world, it breaches the privacy of such individual. The media is such a body, which is often blamed of beaching these privacy laws (Smith, 2011). In the given case study, Bubbles had explicitly asked the Tansy, the Womans Digest reporter that she would be ready to give an interview on the condition of no photographs. And yet, a freelance photographer was hired by Bubbles, which raises both legal and ethical issues against Tansy. With regards to ethics, in a general manner, by not keeping the promise which had been made by Tansy to Bubbles was a breach of ethics, where there is a need to uphold the promise which is made by one person to another. MEAA Journalist Code of Ethics provides that the journalists are required to respect the truth and the right to information of a person. This code requires that the citizens are to be informed and the democracy has to be animated. Most importantly, it provides that while scrutinizing and exercising power, the journalists have to be both accountable and responsible (MEAA, 2017). In this case, this code was breached by Tansy. This is because was not honest to Bubbles and brought a photographer along with her, which was not fair. She failed to respect the rights of others, which was required as per this code. Hence, she failed to be responsible which posed an ethical issue. More importantly, there was breach of PRIA (Public Relations Institute of Australia) Code of Ethics. This code provides that it is a responsibility of the media professionals to be responsible towards their clients (PRIA, 2017). This code of ethics was flouted by Tansy when she chose to ignore the condition set out by her client and brought the photographer with her. Apart from the ethical issues which were raised in this case, there also had been some legal issues. Firstly, there was a breach of contract. A contract denotes a promise which has to be kept by both parties (Paterson, Paterson and Duke, 2012). In this case, the promise was for Bubbles to give the interview and this interview, as had economic value fulfilling the requirement of consideration, was to be taken by Tansy. However, a condition was made of no photographer. When a condition, which is a key part of the contract, is not fulfilled, it can lead to a breach of contract (Clarke and Clarke, 2016). Also, taking this as otherwise, this condition was a promise of the oral contract drawn between Bubbles and Tansy, which was not upheld. Hence, a legal issue was born from the conduct of the journalist for the breach of contract (Latimer, 2012). Another legal issue here relates to the right of privacy. Even though right to privacy is not absolute in the nation, it is nonetheless upheld in the nation. The Privacy Act, 1988 (Cth) provides the manner in which personal information of a person can be collected (The Law Handbook, 2017). If the freelancer clicks any photograph in this case, it would result in legal obligations being raised against Tansy for breaching the promise and collecting the information breached the privacy act. This scenario also raises both ethical and legal issues. As per the PRIA Code of Ethics, the members are required to safeguard the confidence of their clients including the confidential information which they have about the affair of the clients as per Code 4. Also, under Code 9 of this code, the members have to be ready to identify the public communication which is initiated or acted upon by them (PRIA, 2017). However, both of these codes had been flouted in this case by Tansy as the confidence of the client was not upheld. As the photographer she brought breached the condition laid down for interview by Bubbles which was a violation of client confidence (Pearson, 2012). Also, code 9 was not upheld as she stated that an unknown source had given the photos, when she had obtained it through her hired photographer. Hence, ethical issues were raised from this issue. In terms of the legal issues, trespassing is covered under the law of tort which attains civil liabilities around the wrongdoer. So, any person who occupies the premises of an owner, without their explicit permission, is deemed to be in breach of tort law (Turner, 2013). Even though Bubbles home was a well-known landmark, it was not a public place, where the trespassing law cannot be applied. Deeming such trespassing as unlawful in TCN Channel Nine Pty Ltd v Anning (2002) 54 NSWLR 333, $50,000 were awarded to the aggrieved party for trespassing by the media (Tim, 2002). In Lincoln Hunt v Willesee (1986) 4 NSWLR 457 the court stated that implied consent of allowing a media personnel did not provide that the permission was extended to such a person who enters the property of the inhabitant, particularly to harass the inhabitants (Australian Taxation Office, 2017). Hence, for the trespassing, based on these two cases, legal issues can be raised against Tansy. Another legal issue which is raised is from the photographers which were clicked without the permission of Bubbles. As has been stated earlier, in Australia, the individuals have been given with a right to privacy and if the same is not met, the individual has the right of making a claim in the court of law. In Australian Broadcasting Corporation v Lenah Game Meats Pty Ltd (2001) 208 CLR 1999, the court held that secret filming was a breach of right of privacy, particularly when there was a purpose of making the video public. Also, in Giller v Procopets [2004] VSC 281, the privacy of the individual was said to have been contravened as he was tapped without consent (The Law Handbook, 2017). In line with these verdicts, the photographs by the freelance photographer would be deemed as a breach of privacy of Bubbles as these were taken without her consent, especially when Bubbles had given the interview on the only condition that no photographs would be taken. Hence, by breaching the pri vacy and trespassing regulations, there were legal issues raised in this scenario also. As has been stated in the first segment of this discussion, MEAA Journalist Code of Ethics is something which has to be strictly following by the media personnel. In this regard, the code has set certain standards which have to be properly followed. One of the requirements under this code is to be honest, to be fair, to strive for accuracy and to disclose all the facts that are essential (MEAA, 2017). However, the case study clearly shows this code being violated, which becomes the ethical issue of this case. In this regard, when Tansy published the two page spread, which was not true. It was neither honest nor was it accurate. It failed to disclose true facts and stated the information which was not true. Also, the code was breached again as the fair, responsible and honest means were not used by Tansy to obtain the needful information. And this manipulation of the facts, particularly where false facts were presented of Bubbles created a false view and a misconception in the mind of readers. As was required under the code, the privacy of Bubbles was breached and Tansy failed in resisting the compulsion to intrude in the private matters of Bubbles. Hence, by publishing false information, ethical issues were raised. The other code, i.e., the PRIA Code of Ethics was also breached as Tansy failed to adhere to the highest standards of professional competence and ethical practices. Tansy was under an ethical obligation of not disseminating false or misleading information under Code 3 of this code, and she was also required to avoid the occurrence of such. Instead Tansy wilfully breached this code, which presented ethical issues in this case (PRIA, 2017). Legal issues are also raised in this case, particularly relating to the tort of defamation. When misleading or false information is stated against a person, particularly by the media, the person gets the opportunity of making a case of defamation against such media person. And where this is found to be true, the aggrieved party is awarded damages by the competent court (Kenyon, 2013). Recent case of Rebel Wilson proves as guidance for the media to be careful while publishing any kind of information, which they cannot prove to be true. Wilson got $4.5 million in substantial damages, when she brought a lawsuit against Bauer Media under defamation (Coy, 2017). The article which was published in the different magazines was unprecedented and unfairly painted her as being a serial liar (Florance and Younger, 2017). Linking this case, to the present case, Bubbles can make a case of defamation against Tansy as the two page story which she wrote stated lies about Bubbles where she was stated to be a relative of Steven Spielberg and where her real name was deemed as Raylene. Also, based on Lincoln Hunt v Willesee, it can be easily shown that Bubbles had given the permission for the interview and not for the photos which were published. The right of privacy is the key issues where the entire case had been centred both in terms of ethical issues and the legal issues. In this scenario also, ethical issues were presented for Channel X as they featured a photo published in the Womans Digest, along with footage from ABC TV lifestyle program. With regards to the use of information of Womans Digest or ABC, by Channel X was not a breach of ethical standards as PRIA Code of Ethics, under Code 13 require sharing of information and experiences with the fellow members. However, an ethical issue could be raised as the photograph of Bubbles was used without her permission. A sure short ethical breach in this case, where Code 2 of PRIA Code of Ethics was not upheld by Channel X as this code requires the members to avoid any such practice or conduct which can discredit themselves, the entire institute or the clients (PRIA, 2017). As they failed to cross reference to truth of the matter, and also did not take the relevant permission from Bubbles (Foreman, 2015). Another issue which was raised was that they stated in public that a defamation case was raised against Womans Digest by Bubbles Barrett and stated that they stood with Bubbles for her fight for justice, without even going being the truth of whether Womans Digest was actually at fault. MEAA Journalist Code of Ethics makes it a duty of the journalist to first search, and only then state something (MEAA, 2017). Though, on the other hand, it can be claimed that this information had been properly referenced and that only relevant information was being given to the audience. Also, the exclusive story of the life coaching business of Bubbles was published at the backdrop of the controversial issue printed in Womans Digest. This can be raise an ethical issue that this story was published not with a view of presenting the truth, but to tap on the controversial story (Briet, 2011). Hence, the ethical issues in this case are not as strong as were present in the preceding three cases. A legal issue which can be presented in this case again relates to the breach of privacy. The defamation suit was a private matter. Also, as per the case study, the lawyer of Bubbles had only asked the magazine to retract the issue and to apologize for the same. A defamation suit per se had not been filed. Hence, in this case, Bubbles can file another lawsuit against Channel X for presenting false information about her. On the other hand, the breach of privacy, by making the defamation suit a public affair can also be cited in this case. However, the chances of this succeeding are quite less due to the fact that the court affairs are a public matter. Though, for running the exclusive story about Bubbles new life coaching business, along with the featuring of her famous home, a legal issue of breach of privacy can be raised, as this would be deemed as an invasion in her privacy, particularly of the humble abode of Bubbles. Dracula Was Human Professor Ramos Blog
Dracula Was Human Tsutomu Miyazaki The Human Dracula Who knew Dracula was actually in Tokyo in the late 80s, killing little girls and eating their hands? Tsutomu Miyazaki, also known as the Otaku Killer or the ââ¬ËHuman Dracula,ââ¬â¢ murdered 4 young girls in 1988, and preserved their body parts as trophies. As these acts are nothings short of horrifying itââ¬â¢s not the only things he did to the corpses of his victims. Tsutomu is seen as a monster for the vicious acts he committed years ago and the extent he took his killings. What made Tsutomu do these horrifying acts can be blamed on the fact that he says, ââ¬Å"nobody would listen to me.â⬠Tsutomu Miyazaki was born on August 21, 1962 and as premature baby which left him with a deformity of the hands. His hands were permanently contorted and fused to the wrists, which meant that he had to move his entire forearm in order to move his hand. Due to his deformity, Tsutomu remained mostly isolated from people for most of his life. He found comfort in his family for a while which made him move back into his parentââ¬â¢s house in the mid-1980s. He took refuge in his grandfather but in May of 1988, his grandfather passed away and Tsutomu took the death very hard, putting him in a severe depression. He was rejected by his two younger sisters and when his older sister caught him watching her in the shower, she told him to leave and he attacked her. When his mother found out about the incident, she told him to focus more on work and he attacked her also. Tsutomuââ¬â¢s parents only wanted him to work at their newspaper business but he wanted to become a teacher, this conflict made him feel like they would not listen to him and all he wanted was someone to hear his problems. ââ¬Å"I felt aloneâ⬠¦whenever I saw a little girl playing on her own, it was almost like seeing myself (Murderpedia).â⬠Its almost as if Miyazaki murdered the girls not only to get back at the ones who rejected him, but to get back at himself for being so lonely. Miyazaki murdered four little girls in Tokyo, Japan, all under the age of seven and in gruesome ways. His primary method of slaying was strangulation but what he did with the bodies after was the most horrifying part. On August 22, 1988 Miyazaki took his first victim, Mari Konno who was four years old. He took her to a park, took pictures of her, strangled her and took her clothes leaving her naked body behind. He also photographed her clothing and sent the pictures to her family (Ramsland). Miyazaki got away with his first murder and then planned his next victim by October. Masami Yoshizawa was his second victim, a seven-year-old who was walking by herself. Miyazaki persuaded his victim into his car and took her to the spot where he murdered his first victim. He strangled Masami, sexually assaulted the corpse and took her clothes with him. On December 12, 1988, Miyazaki abducted another four-year-old girl named Erika Namba. who he persuaded into his car and took pictures of her like he did the other two victims. He took her clothes with him and was nearly caught. He kept a low profile for the following couple months before taking another victim. Ayako Nomoto was Miyazakis last victim, who he kidnapped on June 6, 1988. Ayako was five years old and was lured away from a park after Miyazaki had been photographing and watching her. Her body was taken back to his house where he would videotape, consume the hand of the corpse, and drink the blood of his victim. He dumped the remains in a cemetery that would later be recovered. In June of 1989, Miyazaki made a mistake that ultimately cost him the illusion of being unknown. He approached two sisters and persuaded one to come with him while the other ran home to get help. The girlââ¬â¢s father stopped Miyazaki in the middle of taking the young girls picture, who he hadnââ¬â¢t got the chance to murder yet. Miyazaki was caught by police while trying to flee to his car, only then did he confess to the murders of the four other girls. When arrested it was found that Miyazaki had 5763 videotapes, many tracing back to be movies he used as outlines for his killings. His collections included the ââ¬Å"Guinea Pig Filmsâ⬠which are said to be his main focus for murder. Miyazakiââ¬â¢s deformity made him isolated, but the neglect from his family sent him into an even worse depression, and his grandfatherââ¬â¢s passing only pushed him over the edge. After being arrested and before being put to trial, Miyazaki underwent a psychiatric evaluation. This showed that he suffered from extreme Schizophrenia and had multiple personality disorder. It was proven that he was aware of the severity of his crimes and ultimately was responsible for what he had committed. After Miyazaki was convicted for the murders of the four young girls, his father said in an interview that he regretted not paying more attention to the feelings of his son. After this Miyazaki wrote a furious letter to his father ultimately blaming him for everything. His father committed suicide after the letter and his son being put in jail. Miyazaki was a monster and was feared by many people for his horrific acts of murder, mutilation, vampirism, and preservation of body parts. As Cohen states in Thesis 4: The Monster Dwells at the Gates of Difference, ââ¬Å"the monster is an incorporation of the Outside, the Beyond. What Miyazaki committed was something from the beyond, something that is so horrible, it crossed the line. Killing young girls what monstrous enough, but to drink the blood and eat the hand of his victim? And send the remains of the bodies and pictures to the families was just down right sadistic. Miyazaki was sentenced to death in 1997 and was executed by hanging on June 17, 2008(Wikipedia). Although Miyazaki got justice by being hung, the families of his victims will forever be haunted by what this monster did to their children. Sending remains and pictures of their dead daughters is something only a sick and twisted monster would do. Miyazaki crossed very many lines with the crimes he committed, and be cause he was rejected over and over again by the only people he had close to him, he went on a killing spree to get back at the ones who never gave him a chance. All he wanted was for someone to listen to his problems. As there are many monsters in our society real or fake, the Human Dracula is one no longer among us, the original anyway. We have seen copycat killers of many serial killers before, whoââ¬â¢s to say someone wont copy Miyazaki in the future? It will never be clear as to why Miyazaki drank the blood of his victim, but itââ¬â¢s said that he ate one victims hand out of anger for his own. Unfortunately, serial killers and serial rapists will most likely never cease to exist, the ones to come can copy what Miyazaki has done, for the monster always escapes (Cohen). Cultural Homogenization and the Internet Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Cultural Homogenization and the Internet - Essay Example Homogenization means being similar and parallel to the other thing. The term cultural homogenization is a relatively new term as it has evolved recently. The world we live in today is becoming more of a global village. This means that with the ever changing technology, it is shrinking as means of communication with each other, no matter how far apart, are becoming faster than ever before. Cultural homogenization is the blending of cultures as they become more related to each other and their uniqueness is being reduced. We are going towards forming a more global culture as new traditions, ideas, and values will be formed which align in a better way with the global arena of today. Another unique point of this new culture will be that, unlike the old individual cultures, this global culture will dominate many societies and might even be recognized as the super culture. Internet is a worldwide connection of computers that allows man to communicate with each other more faster and has crea ted many changes in the society. It was developed in the 1960ââ¬â¢s but it gained popularity and momentum in the 1990ââ¬â¢s when the worldwide web was developed. After that there was an explosion of people who were ready for the vast world that was opened to them. Now people could access information about anything and any part of the world. It allowed for the advancement, exploration, and the quenching of the thirst for knowledge for scientists, researchers and people across the globe. Some of the effects that the internet has had on the global culture are that now different countries are able to advance, as getting education is much easier and faster because of the advancements in technology. It has been discovered that internet is used more for education rather than for entertainment purposes. Therefore, when people have more education the country is able to progress at a rapid rate. The internet has affected the global culture in a way that marketing and sales transactions are easier. The marketers have new ways and methods for advertising their products without any geographical limitations. They post anything on the internet and within seconds, the entire world is able to look at it. This leads to a growth in businesses and ultimately to the growth of economies around the world. Now businesses can run on the internet solely and worldwide organizations are able to advance. One advantage that the internet has provided to the people across the world is that they can study the cultures, which are different from theirs. Prior to this, the people either had to travel all the way to the place to find out the culture or had to read a book. With internet, this can be done merely in seconds and people can get knowledge about the culture of a certain country before going there or before conducting business transactions with the people of that country. This will give them information on the cultural sensitivities so that they do not offend anyone by mistake. Wit h all these advancements taking place and people regularly getting similar information, a global view of the world is being formed in which people around the globe have a similar perspective on the different aspects of life, for instance, peopleââ¬â¢s acceptance to greater diversity. This happens when people like the culture of a different country and out of their own

Salvation - Term Paper Example t Taylor points out that God through the Bible is: Telling mankind that every effort to save them will continue until they themselves find that they are lost and require Salvation. The Bible starts with the perception on how the universe was created. Then it comes to the creation of the first human, Adam, and later his spouse, Eve. It was both of them who did the first sin of the mankind, and that was the reason why God pulled them out of the paradise. From then on, man was forced to earn his livelihood by himself, and there started the diversion of man from God. All these things happened in the Old Testament, and man became a subject to the rage of God as an outcome of his sins. He longed for peace, and thatââ¬â¢s when manââ¬â¢s run for Salvation commenced. The Old Testament cites the laws or commandments that man had to follow to take the road to Salvation. At this juncture, it is important to understand the Greek, Hebrew meanings of the word Salvation. In Greek, the word tha t refers to salvation is ââ¬ËSozoââ¬â¢, which is very comprehensive in meaning like ââ¬Ëto save, to make wholeââ¬â¢ etc. In King James Version of the Bible, from Gen 49:18 to Psa 18:46, the term Salvation occurs 164 times inà 158à verses (Strong's Concordance withà Hebrew and Greek Lexicon). At the same time, in Hebrew, the word for Salvation found in the Bible is ââ¬ËYeshuwahââ¬â¢ which indicates "deliverance" or ââ¬Ësomething savedââ¬â¢. Since man continued to sin, in the Old Testament, God made a promise to lead the mankind to Salvation, which paved the way for the advent of Jesus Christ, the son of God to the Earth to save the mankind. It is mentioned in the New Testament that God gave the commandments to make mankind aware that they crave Salvation; they were never intended to be the means of salvation. As... The researcher of this essay analyzes the Bible, that is a standard parameter whenever there is debate or discussion on faith and science. Salvation is a topic that often comes up in discussions about the Bible, and, of course, the core element of the entire New Testament. Theologians are deeply at odds regarding the extent to which the concept of salvation is used in the Old Testament. James Barr points out that Salvation has not been given ââ¬Ëcentral prominenceââ¬â¢ in the Old Testament. Salvation in religion refers to the saving of the soul from sins and its aftermaths. Biblical Salvation rarely refers to Salvation from hell. Absolution from hindrances in life is the common meaning given to Salvation in the Old Testament. To sum up, the researcher mentions that human Salvation was foreseen by God even before creation in time immemorial. Post creation, God executed the plan of Salvation, which he intended to implement through his Son. He promised the coming of the Messiah, a saviour, to attain mankindââ¬â¢s Salvation. The Old Testament is thus an account of God trying to make mankind realize the need of Salvation and the coming of the Messiah. The New Testament is the account of life, death, and resurrection of the Messiah by which Salvation was attained in its real sense. In culmination the researcher states that the Old Testament is the substratum of the New Testament and though it is the materialization of the plan of Salvation, that is depicted from the Old Testament to the New Testament.

Chinese - Essay Example ined the expertise to use gunpowder and heavy fighting engines which helped them to defeat the song and Jin emperors which were known to be the most powerful and experienced dynasties. Large armies; Yuan dynasty ensured that it had a large army when they were about to attack a territory this give them maximum chances of success in their attacked it also scared away other dynasty from attacking them Discriminations; This dynasty was made up foreigners who did not allowed the natives to hold any position in the government .With nobility not allowed to hold government office they ventured in education ,this made them to be better educated and thus they open private schools and refused to teach in government institution. Zhu Yuanzhang established Ming dynasty in 1368. The reason for this was the rebellion against the yuan dynast, which is said to have brought great famine, drought, flooding, bubonic plague among other natural disasters. This was as a result of what was believed as loosing mandate of heaven Trade; As a way of supporting this dynasty free trade was encouraged majorly with European with which the merchant class and the peasant farmers became very rich, got the education, and entered into government. They used hard currency and later due to inflation, adopted gold and silver as the most efficient means of exchange (Chris). Repression tactics: in order to remain in power after sensing rebellion, laws were enacted to make it official that it would capital offence for any one of within the clan or an official in an office to criticize the emperor. To enforce these laws, many officials were sacked, corruption cases increased, a secret police was established to torture and killed many citizens. Superstition: Natural calamities, such as famine, Drought, flooding Plague, climatic change and rebellion were termed as signs of losing the mandate of Heaven therefore the leader was supposed to be overthrown and his kingdom taken Suppression of some

Sustainable Use of Natural Resources
Sustainable Use of Natural Resources Yaroslav Gromov In present time, the question about sustainable use of natural resources has become very important all over the world. People start to realize that nature cannot provide more resources that it has, and that the natural resources consumed a lot. Therefore, there should be found a way how to solve this particular problem energy crisis. Consequently, we should answer the question if the widespread of renewable energy is as serious alternative to the use of fossil fuels or not. There is no correct answer to this question, but if we definitely want to say ââ¬Ëyes or ââ¬Ëno, it will be better to weighting up the pro at contra. So let us find out the causes why renewable energy is a serious alternative to the fossil fuels. First of all, fossil fuels are non-renewable. Natural gas, coal and oil are the most common example of fossil fuels, and they are the three main types of fuel that people mostly use and depend on. Seitz (2008) states that ââ¬Ëaccording to many analysts the world would not run out of oil, but in a few decades shortages will become prevalent. According to the Energy Information Agency, approximately 93% of the worlds energy sources are fossil fuels, and renewable energy is just about 7%. (2, 2008) Also burning fossil fuels creates carbon dioxide, which is the greenhouse gas that leads to global warming and seriously damages our planet. Secondly, renewable energy sources, such as hydropower energy, solar energy and wind energy are renewable, efficient and non-polluting or causing little pollution. They are simple: all you need is sunlight, running water and blowing wind. Lastly, expanding the use of renewable energy will have a positive impact on employment, according to more than a dozen independent studies analyzing the impact of clean energy on the economy. Greater reliance on renewable energy would have large, positive impacts on economy, creating significant numbers of new jobs, driving major capital investment, stabilizing energy prices, and reducing consumer costs. (Flavin C. 2006, p.10). By contrast, employment in the fossil fuel industries has been in steady decline for decades, in large measure due to growing automation of coal mining and other processes. (Flavin C. 2006, p.10). As these three types of renewable energy were mentioned let us discuss them more specific. Hydropower energy is the most developed technology for renewable energy. The main potential that this type of energy has is that it can be used in multipurpose area. For example, benefits of hydropower are flooding control, irrigation and public water supplies. (6) Hydropower energy is usually generated form falling water, causing little pollution and it is a type of clean energy. Hydropower resources are usually divided into two main categories. As it is mentioned, the first category is resources that require man-made dam structure with high hydraulic heads; the second one is a ââ¬Å"run-of-riverâ⬠system that require minimum dam structure and with low hydraulic heads. (4, 2000, p.44-45). Similarly, World Bank (2004) believes that hydropower can play significant role ââ¬Ëin poverty reduction in developing countries. In addition, World Bank (2004) also claims that ââ¬Ëcurrently about 19 percent of the worlds electricity is produced from hydropower and that the greenhouse gas emissions ââ¬Ëfrom most hydropower plants are relatively low. It is also important to weight the facts about advantages and disadvantages of hydropower energy. On the one hand, hydropower is a clean energy source. It does not pollute the air like fossil fuels do. (6) Hydropower plays a major role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The maintain cost is relatively low. It is renewable. The technology is reliable and proven over time. (7). On the other hand, if water is not available, the hydropower plants will not produce electricity. (6) USGS (7) reports that hydropower energy is not perfect and has some disadvantages. For example, ââ¬Ëhigh investment cost, inundation of land and wildlife habitat, changes in reservoir and stream water quality, displacement of local populations. Solar energy is the second type of renewable energy that was mentioned in this essay. Solar energy is the second most common type of renewable energy. Basically solar energy is the energy of sun. It helps us to survive on our planet, it heats us, it makes threes grow up, and, mostly everything on our planet depends on solar energy. It is possible that ââ¬Ëour current life cannot continue if we remain economically dependent on fossil fuels, as Hermanns (2004, p.4) claims, but as for me, we cannot predict the future and we do not know what will happen tomorrow. So Hermann claims that something is unlikely to happen./p> It is not so easy to talk about advantages and disadvantages of solar energy. Speaking about advantages of solar energy it is necessary to mention some of them. Firstly, solar cells can be used almost any place around the world. Secondly, solar cells silent and non-polluting. In addition, they require little maintenance and have log lifetime. Finally, solar cells can be easily used in places where there is no main electricity. Now let us move on to the disadvantages of solar energy. The main and most important disadvantage is initial cost. Lastly, solar cells are totally depends on weather, and can be used just during daytime and sun hours. It is because the only time when cells can generate electricity. (9) The last and possibly most interesting type of renewable energy is wind energy. There is an interesting point about wind energy. Wind is a form of solar energy; it is ââ¬Ëcaused by the heating of the atmosphere by the sun, the rotation of the earth, and the earths surface irregularities (11). Seitz (2008, 141) reports that wind as an energy source was generally used for power as well as for the cooling houses, adding that wind energy source started to gain respect all around the world. In recent years the widespread of wind energy has been extremely rapid, but, for example, ââ¬Ëdespite that rapid growth, wind energy amounted to less than 1% of U.S. electricity generation (10, p.15). But as any other type of energy wind energy also has advantages and disadvantages. According to the Committee on Environmental Impacts one of the advantages is that ââ¬Ëwind energy has the potential to reduce environmental impacts, because it does not result in the generation of atmospheric contaminants or thermal pollution (10, p.15). Another good point about wind energy is that it is ââ¬Ëone of lowest-priced renewable energy available today (11). In conclusion there is a very serious question if the widespread of renewable energy is as serious alternative to the use of fossil fuels or not. Three main types of renewable energy were considered. So there is a chance in the nearest future that renewable energy sources will fully displace fossil fuels. It may happen, but not very soon and probably just when there is nothing to extract or mine. Now both renewable and non-renewable energy will be used simultaneously. People are not ready yet to abandon fossil fuels, and are not ready for spending huge amount of money for renewable energy. Challenges for Building Stable Democracies Essay -- Essays Papers
Challenges for Building Stable Democracies It has been stated that the Bush administrationââ¬â¢s goal is to have America spread democracy around the world. This may sound radical, but it is really just what our foreign policy has been for the past 60 or so years. The only difference is that now there is no evil communist empire, the USSR has fallen. America has a new ideological enemy the theocracies and oppressive regimes around the world especially Africa and the Middle East, the places that breed terrorists. The Bush administration and most people feel that the best way to stop Terrorism is to wipe out its source. However, in building democracies in the Middle East and other parts in the world there are some extreme difficulties in the process. The first step to building any strong democracy in a country with an autocratic regime is to topple that old regime. This can often be very difficult, because these autocratic regimes usually have quite a strong military and police force to oppose your attempted regime change. America really has little problems with this, because our army is the most powerful in the world. Despite our ease at defeating most armies it we cannot overlook this step in the process of building democracies. The next step is occupying the country; this can often take even more troops then the invasion. This is because often after a state is defeated there are still rebel guerilla groups that can cause a bit of a problem. There is also the fact that it takes a long time to rebuild a country. The two countries we have successfully rebuilt as democracies, Japan and Germany, had no guerillas and it took us five years of occupation to get them where they needed to be. Any invasion force has to have ... ...aucratic gridlock that results in extreme inefficiency. Despite these challenges the United States and others have a good chance to spread Democracy, but it will not be easy. To make Americaââ¬â¢s current plan work we need to be dedicated to this goal, be willing to deal with hardships, have the compassion to get these people out from under oppressive regimes, and to not pull out of the states at the first sign of trouble. Sustainable Housing and Urban Construction
Since the beginning of time, the built environment has been an integral part in providing shelter needs for men, women and children. Maslow (1943) formulated that shelter is a basic requirement of humans. In the future, humans will have to construct sustainable shelter otherwise would they would risk depleting resources for subsequent generations. Construction is an example of a multitasking activity. The lifecycle of construction can be broken into phases. Achieving building sustainability in modern environment requires a better understanding of environmental impacts. Impacts such as climate change, associated costs, as well as utilising benchmarking scale to measure across a whole range of building types and occupancies. This report will discuss building sustainability, the constraints that stake holders of built environment face, and the role of architects in the process of constructing sustainable buildings. Conceptually, sustainability is allowing present generation to meet its needs without depriving later generations of a way to meet theirs. According to Meckler (2004), building sustainability means to ââ¬Å"provide a safe, healthy, comfortable indoor environment while simultaneously limit the reduction of the earthââ¬â¢s natural resourcesâ⬠. Architects, with their unique position within the built environment, are well equipped to meet the challenges of sustainability in the built environment. The building and construction industry possesses a high ability to be innovative (Meckler 2004), and through this innovation that it would create new methods and processes resulting in constructing improved sustainable buildings that can be serve as subsequent yearââ¬â¢s benchmark to beat. The construction industry has invested in research and development into sustainability in order to gain a clearer understanding the effect of building on the environment and reducing the impact of buildings on the environment. The common goal is to be ââ¬Å"energy efficientâ⬠. Being energy efficient does not equate to being energy sustainable. The energy from the traditional fossil sources cannot be supplied without using further considerable amount of energy in supplying it. The efficiency of the energy lifecycle starting from the raw extraction of resources, preparation, transport, conversion and distribution to application may be up to 20%. To equate this in simple terms is that it takes approximately 5kWh to deliver 1kWh of energy for consumption. So in order to consume 1kWh of energy, the real term consumption is actually 6kWh. Numerous studies internationally have shown that operational energy consumes the main amount of total energy use in buildings during a typical service lifespan of approximately 50 years. This accounts for about 85ââ¬â95% of total energy use (Thormark, 2005). From a residential perspective, there should be a focus more on the sustainable development of the residential buildings and urban constructions. The fundamental reason new and more energy-efficient technologies continue to be ignored and the technologies that are applied rarely perform as efficiently as they should is because of a lack of accountability for building energy performance in current building design and operation practices. The building and construction industry in Australia has made significant progress forward in the last 5 years to improve their environmental performance. This improvement has been in response to increased attention from local and state government policies regarding to Ecological Sustainable Development (ESD), as well as the availability of holistic environmental rating tools such as the Green Building Council of Australiaââ¬â¢s Green Star rating tools. Architects factor in climatic variables into their thoughts as they design and plan houses, premises and buildings (Alnaser & Flanagan 2007). In hot dry regions such as in the Northern Territory, the built environment should be planned compactly to reduce the amount of surfaces exposed to solar radiation. In warm humid regions such as in Queensland, buildings should be openly spaced to maximize air movement between individual buildings. This would reduce the structure operational energy consumption and maximise Green Star rating. Green building is a tremendous growth area in design, construction and building materials. Green building has gained momentum due to the rise in energy costs and cost of building materials. The happy medium is somewhere between a combination of passive measures through optimal building design and active measures achieved through efficient mechanical system designed to control the indoor climate. These active measures mentioned above include utilizing renewable energy, such as solar energy, wind energy and geothermic energy, improving thermal performance of building structure, utilising daylight and energy efficient lightings, and developing new sustainable building materials (Thormark, 2005). Another aspect of sustainability that is often neglected is social sustainability. Social sustainability can be thought of as qualitative indicators that complement the development process. Some social sustainability objectives are to provide adequate local services and facilities to serve the development, to provide housing to meet the needs of the population, to provide high quality, habitable developments and where possible to preserve local culture and heritage. In any actual development, there is a need for other supporting elements to make it appealing and sustainable. An integral part of the development is to provide high quality energy efficient buildings for community activities such as musicals and outdoor space for open markets. By having such gatherings, the community will get a sense of ownership and will utilise the facility frequently. A salient aspect of sustainable development is to provide a mix of housing structures of all different types (Zhu & Lin, 2003). In order to achieve the objective of providing affordable housing; designs and construction must be of high quality and yet utilises minimal resources. Wherever possible, cultural heritage should be preserved through the reutilising of local valued buildings. If cultural preservation is achieved, the architectural design for the developments will reflect local heritage and use local materials. According to Williams and Dair (2007), there are 9 commonly identifiable barriers to achieving sustainability. Some of these barriers are: 1. Sustainability measure was not considered by stakeholders 2. Sustainability measure was not required by client (includes purchasers, tenants and end users) 3. The sustainability measure cost too much (in some cases the investor would not fund) Unless sustainability is on the agenda of the local planning government, stakeholders are unlikely to voluntarily put sustainability measures on their agenda. Stakeholders were simply bypassing sustainability issues altogether. As with most local government planning policies, there are strict guidelines regarding social objectives, such as meeting housing needs. If a policy is active at the forefront of development then they appeared on stakeholdersââ¬â¢ agendas. Many architects have the ability to succeed in achieving a higher star rating for energy efficiency for their built environment projects. They have been doing so for a while. The challenges of sustainability in the future should not be construed as extra attachments to how architects have designed in the past. Architects have the inherent ability to go back to the drawing board and to reinvent the design process to reflect the buildings needed for the future. Architects have a vital role to play. They are a part of key decision making mechanism in the building and construction industry. Going forward, their role will be inextricably linked to producing sustainable outcomes. There are many indicators for sustainable building design (Smith 2001). (a)Identifying possible sources to generate renewable electricity on location, i. e. like Building-Integrating Photovoltaic (BIPV). (b)Minimal usage of fossil fuel energy sources used during the lifetime of the building. (c)Ensuring that building management systems are user friendly simple to operate. (d)Implementing passive or active solar energy while employing heating and cooling systems which are fine tuned to the needs of the occupants with air-conditioning used only in exceptional circumstances. As we progress into the future, the need to provide shelter increases due to population growth. The building structures needed for this growing demand have to be environmentally and socially sustainable. There is a global increase in awareness of the diminishing supply of traditional fossil fuel resources. Fossil fuels make up the core heating and cooling energy consumption presently. In order to achieve sustainability and leave the next generation able to meet their needs, there are short term increased economic costs as the transition from traditional dependent on fossil fuels to alternative energy sources. These barriers have to be overcome and the role of the architect in the overall schema is extremely important. They possess the necessary design skills to adapt to the changing needs and produce sustainable commercial and residential . REFERENCES â⬠¢N. W. Alnaser_, R. Flanagan (2007). How to Find the REAL Target Market for Your Childrenââ¬â¢s Book
How to Find the REAL Target Market for Your Childrenââ¬â¢s Book How to Find the REAL Target Market for Your Childrenââ¬â¢s Book The basic idea of marketing a book is pretty straightforward: find out who likes your book, discover where they ââ¬Ëlive,ââ¬â¢ then sell your book there and make them buy it. And when youââ¬â¢re publishing a childrenââ¬â¢s book, the principle is the same - with one exception. In the childrenââ¬â¢s book market, the target audience isnââ¬â¢t made up of children but the bigs who purchase the books for them. That might be parents, uncles, aunts, grandparents, teachers - whomever. Once youââ¬â¢re able to tap into what they want in a kidââ¬â¢s book, youââ¬â¢ll quickly realize that you couldnââ¬â¢t ask for a better target consumer:They have simple core desires: to get a book the child will love,Children go through a LOT of titles, so they always need new books,Once they find an author they like, they will read EVERYTHING theyââ¬â¢ve written, andItââ¬â¢s easy to find out where parents, teachers, and such ââ¬Ëliveââ¬â¢ online. With that in mind - weà ¢â¬â¢re going to look at some ways that childrenââ¬â¢s authors have effectively targeted the people who buy childrenââ¬â¢s books. What's the REAL target market for children's books? Find out in this post Hit up social mediaBlogs, Instagram, Facebook Groups, Twitter, Reddit. These days, parents of young kids are almost always millennials - and, as a result, will rely on the internet for almost any kind of recommendation. And meeting your readers isnââ¬â¢t just limited to libraries...Plan school visitsââ¬Å"Many childrenââ¬â¢s book authors donââ¬â¢t realize that many schools set aside an annual budget for paid author visits,â⬠Jones says. And indeed, thereââ¬â¢s a chance you could be eventually paid for your school appearances. The trick here is to be organized. Make sure you have a plan in place before you contact any schools. Tell them what age range the book is for, send over links, a cover image, a synopsis and anything else they might want to know about your book. "How to plan a school visit for your children's book" and more #selfpubtips Then as soon as the school agrees, send over a summary of your planned visit. At this point, Jones would also be sure to secure sales with their parents, if appropriate. (Remember who your target audience really is.)Jones finishes up her advice with this: ââ¬Å"Follow up the email with a phone call to let them know that you visit local schools for free, in return for the school sending slips home, offering the chance to buy signed copies of the book.â⬠And there are plenty of other tricks you can try to reach the childrenââ¬â¢s gatekeepers. You can try creating a trailer, you can guest post for parenting blogs. So long as you stay focused and direct your efforts to find where the buyers of childrenââ¬â¢s book live - you wonââ¬â¢t go far astray.Have you tried any of these tips before? What's been your experience like marketing your children's book? Leave your thoughts in the comments below and we'll get back to you right away.

The best night jobs you can work during the graveyard shift
The best night jobs you can work during the graveyard shift Not everyone is meant for a 9-to-5 life. Or maybe youââ¬â¢re looking for a side hustle to supplement your 9-to-5 life. Orâ⬠¦maybe youââ¬â¢re a vampire. Whatever the case may be, we donââ¬â¢t judge- and we have some of the best jobs out there for night owls. 1. Air Traffic ControllerThis is not your quiet, sit-back-and-read kind of night job. Itââ¬â¢s a ââ¬Å"pound that espresso, because you need to be on itâ⬠night job, one for people who can be organized and diligent at any hour of the day or night. Air traffic controllers are responsible for coordinating aircraft takeoffs and landings at airports and communicate directly with pilots about runway conditions, weather, and other issues that can impact a safe takeoff or landing. To score this job, youââ¬â¢ll need a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree, and to complete a Federal Aviation Administration training program. Because this is a highly specialized job that requires amazing attention to detail and the ability to stay calm under any conditions, itââ¬â¢s a lucrative one as well: the median salary is $122,950 per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.2. Paramedic/EMTSpeaking of jobs that require calm under pressure, paramedics and EMTs are high on that list as well. This is a job that can have you on call during any shift of the day, responding to emergency calls and helping people in a variety of medical or emergency situations. To become a paramedic/EMT, youââ¬â¢ll need an associateââ¬â¢s degree and/or a certificate from a paramedic-specific allied health programs (some require up to 1,200 hours for certification). All states require candidates to pass a national exam before they can be certified and ready to hit the streets. The median salary is $32,670 per the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.3. Rideshare Service DriverWhile there arenââ¬â¢t quite as many people out and about at midnight as, say, 6 p.m., plenty of people still need to get around at all hours of the night- coming home f rom bars, clubs, working late, etc. Thatââ¬â¢s often where rideshare drivers for companies like Uber and Lyft come in.To become a rideshare driver, youââ¬â¢ll need a valid driverââ¬â¢s license and a decent vehicle, plus youââ¬â¢ll need to pass a background check. Rideshare drivers can make up to $30 an hour, depending on location and tips.4. Social Networking Sites Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1
Social Networking Sites - Essay Example With the increasing use of technology, it has become more acceptable for individuals across the globe who share common interests to interact online and discuss their subject of interest. I love collecting stamps, but most of the friends within my inner circle before I joined Facebook were not similarly inclined. Although they would pass on stamps to me to add to my collection, they were not in the least interested in discussing them. When I joined Facebook however, I was able to contact other people who were also interested in stamp collection and were as passionate about it as I was. My contact with them was not restricted by my geographical location, because the world wide web allowed me the opportunity to make contacts with people I would never have been able to connect with otherwise. The best part of it was that I could interact with these people free of cost, without needing to pay large sums of money to travel long distances for meetings. Facebook also provided me a forum to e xchange stamps and get new ones I did not have in my collection. My friends on Facebook were quite willing to send me their extra stamps in exchange for some of mine and this was a mutually beneficial arrangement. Entering into new relationships on social networking sites however, also has its negative aspects. One example of this is online dating sites. They provide the opportunity to make lots of contacts, hence there is an excellent chance to connect with a love interest, but there are also some significant disadvantages. At the outset, most dating sites are paid ones, therefore they are expensive to use. Secondly, there are also safety concerns that are associated with using such social networking sites. The online interaction with the individual in question occurs on the basis of photographs exchanged over the web, which might not necessarily represent what

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin Essay Example for Free
Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austin Essay Contrast and compare the two marriage proposals made to Elizabeth Bennet in the novel: Mr Collins proposal to Elizabeth and Darcys proposal to Elizabeth Jane Austen lived in a mercenary world and this is reflected in her novel. In Pride and Prejudice no secret is made of the need to marry for money. Jane Austen reflects different types of marriage in her novel. There is mercenary marriage, brought about solely for economic reasons. Such would have been the marriage between Mr Collins and Elizabeth. Mr Collins proposal was fuelled by his own economic motives, desire to please the aristocratic Lady Catherine and by Mrs Bennets economic fears that Elizabeth will inherit little money when her father dies: not real feelings or any aspect of love. Contrasting this is the ideal marriage. Marriages rationally founded, based on, excellent understanding, and, general similarity of feeling and taste, (Chapter 55) Such is the marriage between Darcy and Elizabeth. Although Elizabeth refused Darcys first proposal, it was ultimately made because of true emotional feelings, respect and admiration for Elizabeth. The main reason for Mr Collins selection of a wife in Elizabeth is economic convenience. Her farthers house is entailed to him. By marrying Mr Collins, Elizabeths family will not be left without a home. Many aspects of Mr Collinss proposal reflect his lack of feeling. The first being how the proposal comes about. He comes to Hertfordshire, with the design of selecting a wife, and he ironically feels that his choosing one from Longbourn was, disinterested on his own part, due to the estate being entailed to him. Any lady form Longbourn will suffice. Elizabeth was not even his first choice, but Jane was believed to be soon united with Mr Bingley. He admits to Elizabeth that the house is a motive for his choice, proving that his proposal is dominated by economic convenience not love. His proposal was far from a spontaneous act of love. It was planned and his choice designed with Mrs Bennet. Elizabeth was clearly aware of his intentions, and tries desperately to avoid being put in a position where they can come out. However once forced to by her mother, Elizabeth wishesà to, get it over as soon and quietly as possible. Elizabeth obviously does not have feelings for Mr Collins and takes no pleasure in his proposal. There is a sense that Mr Collins talking through a set of words throughout his proposal. He addresses Mrs Bennet with great formality, it gives a sense that he has pre-designed his address to her. Mr Collins is following the rules, saying what he is supposed to say; not what he feels. His whole proposal to Elizabeth gives a sense of an order of service, with a script that could be applied to any character. The speech is very impersonal. Mr Collins talks of, young ladies, your sex. There is exceedingly little mention of Elizabeths character or Mr Collinss admiration for it. It feels as though Mr Collins could apply his speech to anybody, and later does with Charlotte. The content of Mr Collinss dialogue throughout his proposal is very explicit in its lack of feeling. He begins by stating his reasons for marriage. His first reason it that he feels he should, Sick Equation the example of matrimony. he believes marriage will add to his happiness, and Lady Catherine told him, Mr Collins, you must marry. A clergyman like you must marry. Mr Collins wants a good little wife to use as a tool to improve his public image. He talks of how a marriage will please him. He does not talk bout how the union between him and Elizabeth will bring him great happiness. It does not matter who his bride is, as all he wants is a wife, to improve his status and please Lady Catherine; he does not have to have feelings for her. It could be said that Mr Collinss greatest incentive to marry is to please Lady Catherine. He is being forced into a proposal by another woman, not true feelings. Although there is a mention of his feelings, Mr Collins talks of how, the violence,; of his affections would overlook the downside to marrying Elizabeth . Not how violently he respects and admires her. Darcys proposal is a complete contrast in its emotional conflict. The whole proposal is much more dynamic and there are clearly strong emotions and feelings involved. Darcy immediately tells Elizabeth he loves her. Wards are used such as, and agitated manner, the color rose, became pale with anger, painfully greater, these clearly demonstrate dynamic, strong feelings. They illustrate the greater depth of feeling felt throughoutà Darcys proposal than in that of Mr Collins. Mr Collins proposal was mainly fueled by the great convenience in Elizabeth marrying Mr Collins. However Darcys proposal is very far from convenient. Although technically in the same class, Darcy is viewed to be much above Elizabeth in society and a marriage between them would not be viewed as idea. Mr Collins is following the rules in his proposal; talking to Mrs Bennet, saying what he is supposed to and attempting to please Lady Catherine. In contrast Darcy is compelled by his feelings to break the rules, by not doing what society expects of him. Mr Collins proposal was greatly fueled by Lady Catherine and his desire to improve his standing in society. However Darcy is fueled by his feelings to go against society and potentially decrease his social standing. Darcys true love for Elizabeth overcomes all the sociable reasons for not marrying E. Darcy is a very strong character, however he struggled, in vain, to overcome his feelings. Darcys feelings managed to overcome him. Showing their strength and power. Their proposals act as a great insight into the character of Mr Collins and Darcy. Mr Collins proposal greatly shows what is important to him. The thing of greatest importance to him, seems to be money and connections. His public persona is very important, he was to marry to improve it and please Lady Catherine. Mr Collins sees money and high connections with people such as Lady Catherine as reasons for happiness and why Elizabeth should marry him. He does not appear to realize that not everyone is as materialistic as him. Mr Collins is driven into his proposal by economic reasons and Lady Catherine, which seem more important to him than love. The importance of high standing people such as Lady Catherine to Mr Collins is also very apparent in his proposal. He is clearly obsessed by her high social status. He wants to marry because Lady Catherine tells him, A clergyman like you must marry. He allows her to choose what type of woman he should marry, a woman, active and useful, not brought up high, but able to make a small income go a good way. Lady Catherine tells Mr Collins to choose a woman with these characters, not just for Mr Collins sake but for her own. Mr Collins allows another womans wishes to dominate his choice inà a wife. Perhaps Lady Catherines feelings are more important to him than his own or his potential wife. One of the greatest things Mr Collins can offer seems to be Lady Catherine. He says to Elizabeth, I do not reckon the notice and kindness of Lady Catherine as among the least of the advantages in my power to offer. This again demonstrates Mr Collins lack of recognition of the fact that not every one feels high connection and money to be the greatest importance in life. As well as money and connections Mr Collins believes Lady Catherine to be more important than love. Mr Collins personality traits are also portrayed very well in his proposals. He is unmoved by Elizabeths refusal and continually refuses to accept it. His first reaction is to dismiss the refusal, with a formal wave of the hand. He believes, it is usual with young ladies to reject the addresses of the man whom they secretly mean to accept. He then goes on to say, ; give me leave to flatter myself,; theat he believes Elizabeths refusal, is merely words of course. he clearly has an extremely high opinions and an over confidence in himself and his situation in life; he simply cannot believe why anyone would not wish to be a part of that. Despite great efforts from Elizabeth to convince him otherwise, Mr Collins still leaves his encounter iwth Elizabeth, believing, his proposals will not fail of being acceptable.; it is greatly apparent that Mr Collins is too conceited to accept Elizabeths strong refusal. He is deluded enough to believe himself and Lady Catherine as irresistible to Elizabeth, and will not believe it when she manages to revisit them. He goes as far as too view the refusal as encouragement. There are further aspects of his proposal exposing Mr Collins character. He explains his second reason for marrying as being to add very greatly to my happiness. This add to the partial of him as selfish and self obsessed. He does not make any secret of his motives for marrying as being Lady Catherine and the convenience of a marriage between him and a lady from Longbourn. He is again too deluded to see that saying this would not impress Elizabeth and says, I flatter myself it will not sink me in your esteem. There is a sense that he has such a high opinion of himself, he feels that it does not matter what he says, Elizabeth will want to marry him. He is even deludedà enough to believe Elizabeth should be grateful for his proposal he speaks to Elizabeth with great contempt and fails to realize that this may displease her; not encourage her to marry him. He tells Elizabeth that her, with and vivacity, will be, tempered with the silence and respect which her rank will inevitably excite, when talking about Lady Cather. Implying that Elizabeth should be extremely intimidated by someone such as Lady Cather. He later goes on to denigrate Elizabeth by telling her, Your portion is unhappily so small that it will in all likelihood undo the effects of your loveliness and amiable qualifications.; he is clearly too deluded and foolish to realize insults are not the way to a womans heart. Much of Darcy character is also revealed in his proposal. He is clearly not used to feeling the way that he feels. He first, sat down for a few moments, then walked about the room. He is seemingly unaware of how to deal with this situation. He came toward Elizabeth, in an agitated manner. Darcy is far form his usual character of cool composure. He has clearly been moved by visible feelings; unlike Mr Collins. Darcy shows that money and status are important to him as well. He says, In vain I have struggled; and in spite of all his endeavors,; Darcy cannot overcome his feelings and must express them to E. Unlike Mr Collins Darcy talks of his great affections for Elizabeth. However just as Mr Collins Darcy also talks of money and connections. His speech is described as being, not more eloquent on the subject of tenderness than of pride.; although money and status are undoubtedly very important to Darcy, unlike Mr Collins, he proves that love and happiness are more important to him. Darcy is portrayed as being very honest. He gives Elizabeth the full story of his affections; the good and the bad. He makes not attempt to deny his actions in trying to separate Mr Bingly from Elizabeths sister, even though he must be aware that it will damage Elizabeths opinion of him. The fact that Darcy is willing to give Elizabeth the full story, reflects the openness and extent of Darcys feelings for Elizabeth. Darcy is much more realistic and down to earth than Mr Collins. He is not tooà deluded to realize that the insults of Elizabeths family will damage her pride and upset her. However Darcy respects Elizabeth, and feels it better to give her the full story. Darcy is not too conceited to hear Elizabeths refusal. He accepts it and is clearly moved by it. His, complexion became pale with anger, and he struggles, for the appearance of composure. He stops Elizabeth and, hastily left the room. Despite his higher status than Mr Collins, Darcy is not too self absorbed as to not believe Elizabeths rejection as being real. Darcy his giving everything to E. He gives her the full story. He shows her all his feelings; and vulnerably puts his entire self out on the line. By exposing himself so openly, he wants the great gift of love and happiness. However Mr Collins proposal in comparison is very superficial. He is not searching for lover or a joyous union between man and wife, but selfishly, and improved social standing for himself. As well as contrasts some similarities can be found between eh two proposals. Both Mr Collins and Darcy assume a positive outcome to their proposal and an acceptance of their offer. It is apparent that Mr Collins is so ceratin of acceptance, as he is os greatly conceited and believes that what he can offer will be unavoidably tempting to Elizabeth; she will not be able to refuse. However there is a sense that Darcys assumption is based on other reasons. It feels as though, Darcys feelings are so strong and have been so overpowering that he has not thought of refusal. Perhaps he feels that it would not be possible for him to feel so strongly for her, if Elizabeth did not feel the same. Although he assumes acceptance, when Darcy is faced with refusal he accepts it very quickly, unlike Mr Collins. In their proposals both Mr Collins and Darcy inflict pain on Elizabeths pride by reminding her of her vulnerable social situation. Mr Collins is willing to over look Elizabeths poor fortune. Darcy has been forced by his true love to overcome his question about Elizabeths social standing. Mr Collins sees economic reasons, his high connections, his ability to improve, Elizabeths social standing, and his opportunity to improve his social status by obtaining a wife, as reasons for marriage, not the opportunity ofà love and happiness. Darcy however does not try to use his ability to improve Elizabeths economic situation as reasons for her accepting his hand. Darcy sees the questionable economic and social situation as a reason for not marrying Elizabeth . In contrast to Mr Collins he sees the potential for love and happiness as the fuel for marriage, not money. It is because of this that he is able to overcome his pride and propose. We can also obtain many aspects of Elizabeths character, from her behavior during and reaction to the two different proposals. Elizabeth is clearly very sensible. When Mr Collins presses for time alone with Elizabeth she immediately knows what is going on, and tries desperately to avoid it. Unlike maybe some of her younger sisters she is not naive, and does not simply desire for male company. Elizabeth later goes on to asset the sense of her character, by responding to Mr Collins ridiculous assumptions that Elizabeths refusals is just part of a game that many young women play, by saying, I do assure you that I am not one of those young ladies, (if such young ladies that are) who are so daring as to risk there happiness on the chance of being asked a second time. Elizabeth is clearly too sensible to play such games. She is not so stupid as to risk true love and happiness, and maybe too sensible to see how anyone could be so insensible as to do so. As well as sensible Elizabeth comes across as very civil and level headed. She does not cause a scene, does not loudly refuse Mr Collins and revoke his insults. In stead she wishes to finish the ordeal as quickly and, as quietly as possible. At first Mr Collins declaration of his love makes Elizabeth, so near laughing that she could not use the short pause he allowed in any attempt to stop him farther. this reflects Elizabeths light spirited character and good sense of humor. Despite Mr Collins constant disbelieve of the reality of Elizabeths refusal, Elizabeth still remains calm and civil. She does not appear as ill-tempered and is perhaps sensible enough to realize that becoming upset and excited will not help the situation. She attempts to blame her refusal on herself and lack of ability to please Lady Catherine. She says to Mr Collins. were your friend Lady Catherine to know me, I am persuaded she would find me in every respect ill qualified. She does not personally insult Mr Co llins, but instead attemptsà to find excuse for her denying his proposal. This again reflects her civil character. It seems as though Elizabeth does not like insulting confrontations with people. She is desperate to leave her encounter with Mr Collins under good conditions. However Mr Collins continues to persist in his proposal. Despite attempts to remain civil, as Mr Collins continues to reuses the reality of her refusal Elizabeth becomes more agitated. She cries to Mr Collins, with some warmth, your puzzle me exceedingly, Elizabeth is seemingly too sensible for such foolishness and silly games; and they clearly agitate her. However instead of insults, Elizabeth reverts to her trade mark irony as she becomes more angry. It is a reflection on her good nature a strength that she remains so calm during such an infuriating ordeal. Elizabeths connection in intellect and sense with her father is revealed at the end of the proposal. Elizabeth acknowledges that she will not be able to convince Mr Collins and immediately thinks of her father. Sh knows that his character is just as sensible as her own, and unlike her mother, her father will not make her marry such an obsurd man. Many of the aspect of Elizabeths character are also revealed in Darcys proposal. As with Mr Collins Elizabeth did not want to see Md. However this is due to her dislike of his character; not even her sense could foresee this proposal. After Darcy beings his proposal, he views Elizabeths silence as, sufficient encouragement, to continue. This agin reflects Elizabeths strength of character. She is clearly recognized by Darcy as a woman with strong mind and opinions. Elizabeth was at first sorry for the pain he was to receive. This shows that Elizabeth is a compassionate character. Although she deeply dislikes Darcy; she is not so spiteful as to wish to inflict any pain on him. Elizabeth evidently feels much more emotion throughout Darcys proposals. Phrases are used such as, color rose into her cheeks, she was roused to resentments, she lost all compassion in anger. However despite heightened emotions, Elizabeth still tries to remain patients and composed. It is clearà the Elizabeth feels much more for Darcy. She is much more personal in her responses to him. She Darcy, I have never desired you good opinion. She makes no secret of her dislike for him. She informs Darcy that it is not only his proposal on which her, dislike was founded. Elizabeth is clearly very passionate about Darcy, even if she does not like him. She is insulted by him, and cannot remains so civil as with Mr Collins. She cannot brush away Darcys insults as she can with Mr Collins. This is all because she feels for Darcy and does not for Mr Collins. Elizabeth clearly cares deeply for her family, as she particularly struggles for composure, after Darcy confirms his actions causing hurt to Elizabeths sister Jane. As well as the creditable aspects of her character, Elizabeths greatest fault is also displayed. Her fault being prejudice. She bases her deep, deep dislike of Darcy, on the opinions she formed of him after their first meeting. In her final dialogue of Darcys proposal Elizabeth says, from the first moment I may almost say, of my acquaintance with you, your manners impressing me with the fullest belief of your arrogance, your conceit, and your selfish disdain. Because of this opinion Elizabeth automatically believes Wickhams story. The believe of his story, inflated Elizabeths bad opinion of Darcy, and greatly fueled her dislike. Elizabeth does not even think to consider her view of Darcy may be incorrect. She does not hesitate in firing her insults at him and shows great prejudice towards him. Elizabeth does not acknowledge the feelings of either of the men proposing to her. She knows she will not make Mr Collins happy. Elizabeth believes that after Darcy has exposed his love to Elizabeth he, can have little difficulty in overcoming it. Elizabeth appears completely ignorant to the stir she has cause in d. The reflects her modesty. She does not have an over inflated image of herself and is too sensible to feel that men should always fall in love with her. Throughout both proposals, despite being annoyed, angered and hurt, Elizabeth always tries to retains her composure. Although this is a merit to her strength of character, it could also be interpreted in a different way. Perhaps Elizabeth tries to remains calm because she cares aobut what othersà think of her. She does not want to be viewed as ill-tempered or hot headed. Instead as the civil sensible character, that she is. I feel the greatest tribute to Elizabeths strength of character, is her refusal of both proposals. She proves herself to be, much wiser and much more confident than Charlotte Lucas, who accept Mr Collins proposal. Elizabeth will not just marry for convince and the safe entail of Longbourn. Elizabeth shows that she is too strong to be swayed into acceptance, by a rich husband and a lavish existence. Unlike Mr Collins, Mrs Bennet and Charlotte Lucas, Elizabeth proves that love and happiness are the most important thing to her, not economy and status; love will be the only reason why she will marry. Typically, Mrs Bennet is reflected very badly in her attempt of match making. In discussion with Mr Collins, Mrs Bennett assumes that Elizabeth will accept Mr Collins proposals. This shows that both feel money and connections are suitable reasons for accepting a marriage. The both assume that Elizabeth also views status as more important than love. Mrs Bennett does not think to consider the feelings of her daughter. She overlooks Elizabeths discomfort and vexation, and continues to pressure Elizabeth into time alone with Mr Collins. This implies that to Mrs Bennett improved social connections, the secure knowledge that her house will remain in her family, are more important than the feelings of her family. This is later supported by Mrs Bennetts reaction to Elizabeths refusal. She refuses to talk to Elizabeth for what she has done. This probes that Mrs Bennett attaches a greater value to status, than to love and enjoyment of her family. There is a sense that she wishes to be the boss. Whatever she tells her children to do is right and must be done. However she does not have the wit or intellect to command such control. Instead, just as a child, she sulks when her authority is not followed. Elizabeth maintenance of a civil manner throughout the proposals, shows that she is more sociably acceptable than her mother. Despite Mrs Bennetts constant attempts to improve her social standing. One of the Jane Austens greatest tricks, is her ability to adapt her scriptà to influence the reader into feeling what she wants them to feel. This is very apparent in the two proposals. For Mr Collins proposals, Jane Austen includes the full dialogue of his declaration. This has great effect. By including the full script of Mr Collins dialogue it enhances the effect that Mr Collins is talking through a script. You get the full flavor of his pre-designed speech; and the extent of his lack of feeling. Jane Austen uses the opposiet tactic achieving an opposite effect for Darcys proposal. She does not write the full dialogue of Darcys proposal. Instead she depicts the events in a narrative form. This helps to maintain the reader like towards d. Elizabeths fault is prejudice and Darcy is pride. Due to his nature and the society hie lives in Darcy will inevitably damage Elizabeths pride with insults towards her status. However these are not included in the dialogue. So the reader comes to respect Darcy for telling a true story of his love; but without disliking him for rude conceited remarks, as with Mr Collins. There is a further effect form the authorial comments. The ending to Mr Collins proposal, leaves a definite finality to the situation. Although Mr Collins leaves convinced they will marry, Elizabeth knows otherwise. She will apply to her father, who will make no doubt of the fact that Elizabeth does not wish to accept Mr Collinss proposals. Elizabeth does not reflect on his proposal; and there is no question that she does not feel for Mr Collins. However with Darcy it is different. Elizabeth is definitely moved by his proposal. She sat down and cried for half and hour. She considered her meeting with Darcy, in very agitated reflections until the sound of Lady Catherines carriage. There is no sense of finality to Darcys proposal or Elizabeths feelings. As the reader is aware that Elizabeths passionate hatred is founded on prejudice, you cannot help but wonder that if she were to over come her fault, her passion towards Darcy might change. It is clear through the proposals that women did not always have a very high standing. For some women were simply interchangeable. For example when Mr Collins finds that Jane is taken he immediately move his marital interests to Elizabeth. It appears that women did not always have a high enoughà standing to even choose their partner in marriage. Some women were forced into marriage not by love or choice, but by family and the pressure to increase or maintain a social reputation. For example Mrs Bennett attempts to force Elizabeth into marrying Mr Collins.. It is not all women who have Elizabeths strength of character not to be pushed, for example Charlotte did not. It appears that women could sometimes be the victim of emotional blackmail. For example Mr Collins tires to convince Elizabeth to marry him by telling her that it is unlikely any one else will offer, as her, portion is unhappily so small. Mr Collins proposal also suggests that what women said in reply to a proposal did not always matter. Mr Collins finally resigns himself to saying that even if Elizabeth continues to refuse, her mother will ensure a marriage. However Darcys proposal contradicts this. Darcy takes note and respects Elizabeths refusal. He make no attempts to bribe or pressure her as he realises she does not love him. Both proposals reflect the great importance of money and class when it comes to marriage. Mr Collins proposal was fueled by economic and social reasons. It appears that to some these are substantial enough reasons for marriage. Mr Collins tells, your portions is unhappily so small that it will in all likelihood undo the effects of your loveliness and amiable qualifications. This implies that many would feel, class many would feel, class, money and connections to be more important than admiration of the other, when in search of a bride. Even Darcy who feels genuine love for Elizabeth, must mention money. In the society of the time, money and class are such important issues that Darcy cannot let them escape when proposing. Although it is revealed that money is very important when it comes to marriage, it is also apparent that true gentlemen such a Mr Darcy will not befall to snobbery, they can overcome economic situations, because they have the correct moral understand to know that lov e is most important.
